Only the beginning...

Oct 28, 2025

‍CONDITION: VERY GOOD. No significant changes

‍

‍RESPIRATION:  Rapid, lip flewing, no cheek puffing. Able to recover from frequent “flop downs” breathing through nares, mouth closed.

‍CARDIAC: Rapid, pounding more often than not.

‍GAIT: Wiggle butt. Rare nail scuffing (I believe this is due to nails being long).

‍M/S Rear legs continue to shake, especially with forward lean. Rear feet are only touch points on the ground rather than a base of support

‍DIET: Some kibble, with home made topping protein, eggs, calcium, fish oil, Flax seed, ‘filler,’ squash of some type, veggies, bone broth. Supplements: B1, B12

‍Henry’s muscular dystrophy signs and symptoms have stabilized. He suffers frequent “flop downs” while out and about and sometimes in the house. Henry does have his bursts of two-year-old puppy energy. Endurance is not for him! The very etiology of muscular dystrophy is the very thing that limits Henry. Muscular dystrophy is ugly…

‍I have noticed a shift in Henry’s perception. When a “flop down” prevented him from engaging in an activity, he seemed distressed. Now when his “flop downs” occur, he takes them as they are. Henry watches what’s happening around him and then pops up when his body allows.

‍Henry has morphed into a dog! He has discovered barking at passing dogs. (Oh, great!) What I previously liked to believed to be great recall is actually Henry testing his limits. Henry is great at problem solving. Usually, when Henry solves his problem, it creates one for me. If you know, you know!

‍Boundaries are being established. Sounds good! Henry and I are still finding who is setting the boundaries!

‍Daily muscle massages, range of motion manipulation, and dips in the pool continue.

‍Henry was lucky enough to have a special experience this past Sunday. Stay tuned! In fact, this is not the end, it is the beginning…
